I have been teaching green wood furniture making at Hereford Community Farm for over 10 years. Much of this teaching has been with adults with learning difficulties and people living with mental health problems. Over this time I have seen the positive impact creativity can have on some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
Since 2019 I've been teaching at the Small Woods Association in Telford running the Build a Bench project. This project works with long term unemployed people many of whom are living with mental health issues, long term substance abuse or social isolation. The therapeutic value of green woodwork is clear to see as people begin learning new skills in a relaxed outdoor environment. Other activities have been teaching at the annual Refugee Day’s at Clissett Wood in Herefordshire. These events are organised between Ledbury Refugee Support and Wolverhampton City of Sanctuary to bring people together for a creative, sociable, fun day out. |
